Rainy Day Stories

Julia and I jumped into the white Ford pickup and drove over to the Henricks Place to do an errand or two. We commented on the much welcomed rain that we were receiving. The rain gauge recorded about a half an inch over two days. Suppose to get pretty cool tonight. When Julia parked the pickup, we just sat and listened to the raindrops falling on the cab and windshield. I then recalled a memory which I shared with Julia... "When I was a kid and before we started RBR, the only time we would maybe go to town during the summer was when it would rain. That was the case in the middle of June many years ago. The downtown Rapid City stores were having their "Crazy Days" sales. Mom had gone out of the car and was shopping at JC Penny looking for a bargain. Mom was very frugal. Dad and us kids sat in the car listening to the rain falling and watching the windshield wipers go back and forth every so often. I remember it like yesterday. And then my dad began to sing.... "It's raining... it's pouring... the old man is snoring. He bumped his head and went to bed... and couldn't get up in the morning".... And then he laughed.... and of course we laughed.... And a memory was planted in my mind that has lasted through the years... and now Julia knows the story... and perhaps the story will be told again of sitting in the pickup with her dad... telling stories.
